What do you know about Revelation?  Do you think of the apocalyptic writings?  Or do you know that Revelation includes letters written to each of the seven Christian churches in Asia Minor long ago?  Do you know about the symbolism used to guide each church through adversity so they may experience the joy of Christ?  Come join us in Adult Forum each Sunday at 8:45 am to learn more.

I am looking for bow makers to help with making new bows for this Christmas.  I will supply the ribbon.  We might even want to have a bow party before Hanging of the Greens in November!  Date to be determined.  We will gladly accept donations of our communion wine at any time.  We use Manischewitz Concord Grape wine which you can purchase at Giant Eagle.

Hanging of the Greens…Hanging of the Greens will take place on Saturday, November 23, beginning at 9:00 am.  Please let Nancy know if you are able to assist.  More hands make less work!

Christmas Poinsettias…The cost is $17.00 for a 7.5” pot with two plants and nine blooms.  Flowers are to be paid for when signing up.  Checks should be made payable to Living Lord Lutheran Church marked “Poinsettias” in the memo portion and may be placed in the offering plate or mailed to the church office.  The deadline to place your order is Sunday, November 24, 2024.  There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.

Well, I was not expecting to have this kind of year.  I knew we were stuck in the mud, so to speak, and we needed to get out somehow.  We suggested to the congregation a means to get out and move forward and they agreed.  The voting is over and we are no longer part of the ELCA.  We are now an independent Lutheran church.  Now the hard work comes and that is moving us forward and start to build on our successes.  We have reviewed our constitution and by-laws and have removed any reference to the ELCA.  We have also made some suggestions that are minor here and there.  We will get this document prepared and have our attorney review it for legality and a few other items we would like him to review.  And we will have him review our tax exempt status to see if we need to do anything on that matter.  I will be calling a Special Congregation Meeting on Sunday, September 29, to put before you the hiring of Pastor Gerald Gammon as our part-time pastor.  This is an especially important first step to getting us back on track.  We will continue to update you on the constitution and the start of our Stewardship Campaign for this year.  This will be an especially important year for Stewardship.  We need to make sure we can be a force for our community.

Church Information…Please remember that you can obtain church information from the monthly Lamplighter Newsletter, the Constant Contact emails you receive, on the church website (www.lllc.org), on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Living-Lord-Lutheran-Church-493806727349110/), and postings on the church bulletin board.  Church Council Meeting minutes are posted on the bulletin board and sent out via Constant Contact.  We would like to see a better “open rate” when we send information to you via Constant Contact so that we know you are being informed of the activities that are occurring at the church.  If you have any other suggestions on how best to reach out to our parishioners, please see a Council member.

Wow, that was a fast summer!  October finds us looking forward to the busy holiday season of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the start of 2025.  There will be a sign-up sheet around October 1 for bakers who would like to bake cookies to sell in early December.  More info coming.  Fellowship Sunday in October is on October 20.  This will be “Pie Day”.  That was a hit last fall and I am staging a rerun.  Mark your calendars.

Monthly Women’s Breakfast…Please join us at our monthly breakfast at Vasilio’s in Cortland on the second Thursday (October 10) of every month at 10:00 am.  All are welcome!

The Senior Valley Choir, sponsored by Scope, will present a concert at Living Lord Lutheran Church on Friday, October 18, at 6:00 pm.  The Senior Valley Choir consists of about 30 senior citizens who love to sing.  Pastor Sam Mohn is the Director, and Carolyn Hartzel is the pianist.  The church will collect items needed by the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County.  Needed items include litter scoops, litter boxes, soft cat treats, nylon collars (all sizes), 6 ft. leashes, dog toys (no rope toys), cat toys (no cat nip), dry food for dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens, canned food for dogs and cats, hand soap, and peanut butter.  A full list can be found on the AWL website under the Donate tab.  A link to AWL’s wish list on Amazon can also be found there.  Come join us and help support local animals in need.  We look forward to seeing you!

I would like to thank all of the volunteers that help make our worship experience run smoothly every week.  The greeters, the choir, the organists, the lectors, the assistant ministers, the communion assistants, the altar care, the bread bakers, and all who help behind the scenes.  We are always looking for additional help so that we don’t overwhelm the current volunteers.  And if you don’t feel comfortable serving in front of the congregation, there are many “jobs” that don’t require your presence up front.  If you would like to volunteer, please see me at church or give me a call.  We will make sure that you are trained and assigned to another member to help you until you are comfortable.  If there is a particular hymn that you would like to sing, see either myself or May Love and we will try and fit it in.  I would like to continue singing Sunday School songs.  We could even get the choir to help us become kids again!

We have had a remarkably busy summer here at Living Lord.  First, we had our Flea Market in June, which went well considering how hot it was that day.  We had a lot of folks pull in and check out the vendors and the bake sale.  The bake sale went well, and we sold about $500 of items.  I requested that any money from the bake sale should be placed into the 60th Anniversary account to help pay for our Open House.  Our second project was the Open House.  I was a little disappointed at the turnout.  But still, our name was out there through advertising, flyers, etc.  I have noticed over the past several months we have had many visitors come through the church on Sunday morning.  Many are still coming to Sunday services.  I believe we have had more people visit us than we have had in a long time.  I am hoping that all the advertising we have done this late spring and summer has had something to do with that.  Rally Sunday is coming on September 22, with Fellowship after service.  We will hold our Second Vote on disaffiliation from the ELCA on Sunday, September 8, 2024.  This Sunday, August, 25, I will discuss one more time and rebut several things the Bishop said on her visit to Living Lord on August 18.
