From Pastor William D. Leitch

It’s hard to believe this is my last Newsletter article.  Ronda and I have had a blessed ten years with you all.

Ten years ago, you all had gone through almost three years of interim transition.  That is hard on any congregation and I did not want you to experience that again.  At the “meet and greet”, I asked you if you knew how old I was, and your response was a shrug of shoulders.  You didn’t know.  I promised you ten years because I wanted you to know that I was not just going to be here a few years and then “leave for a bigger congregation” or one in a vacation spot.

It seems that promise meant something to you and together we started organizing and developing a vision of Living Lord’s ministry.  It was your visions of ministry.  Thank you for trusting me to lead.  It wasn’t difficult.  Why?  Because you all stepped up!  About the time I thought there was no one to lead a particular ministry, you came forward with a vision and with hope and joy.  Thank you for revealing your gifts and sharing them with this whole community.

This said, remember how God has gifted you.  I believe that whoever comes to be your pastor will see your gifts and empower you to continue to lead and use these gifts to grow the Body of Christ.

Too often pastors leave, and it is up to the congregation to articulate their gifts, strengths and weaknesses, and their vision.  Yes, you could do that, and you would probably do an excellent job.  However, too often your humility downplays some very awesome ministry you have accomplished and desire to continue.  This is why I have encouraged you to complete the update of the Ministry Profile and to select your Call Committee before I leave.

It is important for any candidate to know where you are, where you are going, and what your needs are to continue your ministry.  This is what I would want to know so that I could adjust my leadership to empower your vision and still stimulate even more visionary work where it is needed.

I did not want to leave you in fear.  I want to depart with you firmly committed to God’s mission for you.  I have witnessed your great effort in this endeavor.  I have also witnessed the Holy Spirit who empowered you to make this happen.

I am excited for Living Lord.  I love my church!

Church Information…Please remember that you can obtain church information from the monthly Lamplighter Newsletter, the Constant Contact emails you receive, on the church website (www.lllc.org), on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Living-Lord-Lutheran-Church-493806727349110/), and postings on the church bulletin board.  Church Council Meeting minutes are posted on the bulletin board and sent out via Constant Contact.  We would like to see a better “open rate” when we send information to you via Constant Contact so that we know you are being informed of the activities that are occurring at the church.  If you have any other suggestions on how best to reach out to our parishioners, please see a Council member.
